There are many alternatives on the market to Verizon, AT T, Sprint and T-Mobile that offer cheap phone plans. Switching to one of these alternative cell phone service providers can literally save you hundreds of dollars a year, particularly if you need a phone plan for one person. The best thing about these alternative providers is that they all operate on either the Verizon, AT T, Sprint or T-Mobile networks but at a fraction of the cost that the main carriers charge for service. In fact some of these providers, like Cricket Wireless for instance, are actually owned by one of the four major wireless carriers. In the case of Cricket Wireless, it is actually owned by AT T. This type of service provider, one that doesn t actually have it s own cellular network, is called a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, or MVNO for short.

In the USA alone, there are over 50 MVNO s in existence. With that many companies offering cell phone service, competition among each of them to try and acquire you as a subscriber is very high. The benefit of this competition to you means that you can get a very good deal on a cell phone plan if you know where to look. Fortunately for you, you found this page and thus know where to look! Use the table below to aide you in your research so that you can make an informed decision and choose the best phone plan for your needs.

From our branch at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport it will take you only eight minutes to drive the four miles into the city centre on East Washington Street. At busy times you could drive via East Buckeye Road, which is a very slightly longer route but should still only take 10 minutes. During busy traffic times, it is sometimes preferable to enter the Phoenix Downtown area from the south or west if possible. These routes have larger capacity and are less likely to get congested. The streets in the east are smaller and often experience traffic problems, especially Seventh Street. There are no toll roads in the city but you may encounter then depending on where your journey takes you out of Phoenix.

You will find that parking your rent a car in Phoenix is quite simple. There are more than 25,000 parking spaces in the city. Off-street garages are plentiful and there is also substantial on-street meter bays. Do remember that these bays are enforced seven days a week, so check out the hours to ensure that you don’t get a parking ticket.

Sixt Tips back to top

Phoenix is the largest city in the Southwest and the sixth largest in the US. It is the most cosmopolitan city in the region and boasts a varied and exciting dining scene and lots of nightlife. Known as the Valley of the Sun, the area can get extremely hot in summer and enjoys 325 days per year of sunshine. Winters are also warm and dry. There are heavy rains in late summer, so it%u2019s probably a good idea to put the hood up if you rent a convertible. You can also experience spectacular lightning shows at this time of year. Although many visit Phoenix for the great golf and shopping, nearby Scottsdale in the East Valley has lots of hip dance clubs along with old-time Western saloons.

There are lots of attractions to choose from in Phoenix. The Phoenix Art Museum is the largest in the Southwest and holds a fine collection of modern and contemporary art. Roosevelt Row is the city’s creative heart, with many galleries and a varied nightlife. Music fans and children alike will love the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). Here you will be introduced to literally thousands of instruments and you even have the chance to play many of them. Heritage Square in the Downtown area has some great dining options and Old Town Scottsdale in the Greater Phoenix area is known for its upscale shopping and dining. Lovers of architecture will excited to drop by Taliesin West, the winter home of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. There are frequent tours of this impressive house, which was inspired by the surrounding desert landscape.

Sightseeing Destinations back to top

For lovers of the outdoors, Lake Pleasant Regional Park is a gem. The park extends to some 23,000 acres of beautiful mountain and desert landscapes. Activities include camping, mountain biking and hiking through the beautiful scenery. There is also an educational visitors centre that gives historical information on about the area and construction of the Waddell Dam.

Distance to Lake Pleasant Regional Park

  • From Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport: 45 miles, about one hour

Take the I-10 south and you will find the Gila River Indian Reservation. At the fascinating HuHuGam Cultural Center you can learn all about the history and culture of the Native American peoples who made this beautiful area their home. There is also a casino and replica Old West town.

  • From Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport: 25 miles, about 45 minutes

Business Travel back to top

Phoenix may have been founded on agriculture, but these days the economy is much more diverse. Major industries now include technology and aerospace and industry giants like Intel have large sites in nearby Chandler. If you are visiting the city for an exhibition or conference, you will most likely be attending the Phoenix Convention Center, which is located in the Downtown area

Best cheap phones in the US for 2017

Cheap phones

Trying to find the best cheap phone, especially in the US, is a herculean task in 2017, as carriers want to lock everyone into contracts even at budget prices. You want to spend less money not more, right?

That’s why we’ve deployed our knowledge of the best phones under $300 and tested hundreds of cheap phones to rank the best devices. Unlocked, contract free and SIM-free phones are included in the top ten.

The mobile devices on this list certainly won t be the very best phones in the US, so you won’t find the high-end iPhone 8 Plus or Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus here.

But every cheap phone here should be just fine for casual use by anyone looking to save some cash on a discounted iOS 11 or Android Oreo device.

Cheap phones

1. Moto G5 Plus

Our favorite cheap phone with a premium new look

The Moto G5 Plus is the best cheap phone you can buy right now mostly because it doesn’t look or feel like a budget phone. It has a metal build, a 5.2-inch Full HD screen, a fingerprint sensor, quick charging and 64GB of internal storage with a microSD card reader for expansion.

Supported by all major US carriers, including Verizon, AT T, T-Mobile and Sprint, the G5 Moto Plus also runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and includes Google Assistant, which we’ve found to be comparable to Siri. It has a Snapdragon 625 CPU, and while it’s not going to be blowing away the benchmarks, it’s powerful enough to play games and multitask. The only features that the more expensive Moto Z2 has that you ll really be missing are a better camera, VR capabilities and MotoMods. Most people will do just fine with this phone, and it is less than a third of the cost of Motorola’s flagship.

Amazon is offering the Moto G5 at an even deeper discount to Prime members. It’s just $239 with Amazon’s lockscreen ads, or the normal $269 without those ads for everyone else.

2. Asus ZenFone V

The best value for Verizon customers

The Asus ZenFone V is a budget beast that deserves to fly but is chained down by Verizon exclusivity. Even so, this phone would still feel like a reasonable deal at $400, but it s only $240.

There s some much going right for this phone, making it easy to forget about some of the nitpicky detractors. The screen, the camera, the powerful internals and the simple but classy design pull this phone together in a great way, and tacking a $240 price tag on the box makes it a no-brainer.

Unfortunately, tacking Verizon on the box limits who can buy this phone, but for Verizon customers or those looking for a great budget phone worth switching carriers for, the Asus ZenFone V is worthy.

3. iPhone SE

iOS on an incredible budget

Apple’s return to the four-inch form factor is faithful to the iPhone 5S, but packs a serious punch in the performance department, bringing specs that put in on par with the iPhone 6S.

The fact that you can get this smartphone for under $300 makes it an absolute steal if you’re a loyal iOS user. Sure, it doesn’t come with all of the bells and whistles of a brand new iPhone 8 or iPhone X, but complete with iOS 11, it still holds up with the latest.

4. ZTE Blade V8 Pro

One of ZTE’s best is also one of its most affordable

At its core, the Blade V8 Pro offers a lot for the money. It doesn t wow when compared to flagship but if all you want is a phone to do the basics, you ll be happy with the Blade. ZTE did a great job balancing price, performance and features.

After using the ZTE Blade V8 Pro for a month, we were impressed at just how little we missed from a flagship phone. Sure, you don t get the multitasking performance of more powerful smartphones but for a majority of tasks, the Blade V8 Pro is perfectly adequate.

The ZTE Blade V8 Pro is an excellent smartphone for the price. Its bargain bin price gets you good battery life, decent dual-rear cameras and a near-stock Android experience. If you re okay with having an older version of Android, the Blade V8 Pro is among the smartest choices if you’re in need of a budget smartphone.

Cheap phones

5. Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom

A lot of phone for the money

Weight: 170g | Dimensions: 154.3 x 77 x 7.9mm | OS: Android Marshmallow | Screen size: 5.5-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | CPU: Snapdragon 625 | RAM: 3GB | Storage: 32/64GB | Battery: 5,000mAh | Rear camera: two cameras, each 12MP | Front camera: 13MP

I m surprised by the Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom. While I was fairly impressed with its specs and the much-improved design over the original Asus Zenfone Zoom, its direct predecessor, I wasn t completely sold. That s mostly because I didn t know how much it would cost.

Not only is it cheaper and far better than the Zenfone Zoom, it s one of the best mid-tier options available. Asus ZenUI has improved to the point where it s no longer a red flag for most users and the value here in terms of spec and design is tough to beat.

While not perfect in its execution, it s full of crowd-pleasing features and rocks a pleasing design that defies its price point, coming together as a smart buy for just about anyone.

6. Moto E4

Who knew the low-end could be so good?

If you’re looking for a truly affordable device that doesn’t sacrifice too much to meet an attractive price tag, the Moto E4 is still a good option you could take a look at. We particularly liked the slick design, Android Nougat software, fingerprint sensor and the general value of the phone.

There’s still the issue of it only having 16GB of storage and the performance isn’t fantastic, but if you can get over those issues the Moto E4 will be a great phone for you.

Cheap phones

Cheap phones

7. Honor 6X

A whole lot of features for not a lot of cash

Weight: 162g | Dimensions: 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2mm | OS: Android Nougat | Screen size: 5.5-inch | Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 | CPU: Kirin 655 octa-core | RAM: 3/4GB | Storage: 64GB with microSD storage | Battery: 3,340mAh | Rear camera: 12MP + 2MP | Front camera: 8MP

The Honor 6X builds upon the many successes of the 5X: it’s an affordable phone that’s packed full of features that make it one of the best values on the market.

While decidedly lacking that flagship feeling in the hand, in that it’s not hefty or made up of premium materials, the 6X pleases if you can look past it.

It has a bright, clear display that you can unlock with the rear fingerprint reader. The dual rear-facing cameras provide better results than most phones in its price range.

Honor has cemented itself as one of the world’s best budget phone makers with the Honor 6X.

Best Cheap Phones and Budget Smartphones 2017: 8 of the most affordable phones

Trying to find the best budget smartphone around this Black Friday? Well you’re in luck, our round-up lists the best cheap smartphones currently available.

2017’s headlines have been all about super swish, but ultra expensive phones, like the iPhone X, Galaxy S8 and Pixel 2. But a number of great affordable smartphones have also hit the market. These have included stellar value handsets from established names, like Motorola and its Moto G line, to young upstarts like Wileyfox with its Swift series.

Scroll down to check out our definitive guide of the best affordable smartphones on the market. If you’re in a rush then grab a bargain using one of the below deal links.

Best cheap phone deals 2017

  • BUY NOW: Motorola Moto G: £89 SIM free – SAVING £60
  • Buy Now: ASDA Mobile Alcatel A2 XL for just £70 – SAVE £15

Wileyfox Swift 2

1 of 8

Score

Cheap phones

After a disappointing first round of phones, Wileyfox – I think they like to be known as the British OnePlus – is back with the Swift 2, and it s a big improvement.

The metal built phone has a 720p 5-inch display, sleek design and Snapdragon 430 CPU that seems to constantly get the job done. If you plump for the slightly pricier Plus model, you get an extra gig of RAM (3GB, rather than 2GB) and 32GB storage. On the back the 16-megapixel Samsung sensor is decent, but not stunning in low-light and battery will easily get you through the day .

At time of review the Wileyfox Swift 2 was available for £159.

Vodafone Smart Ultra 7

2 of 8

Score

Cheap phones

• 5.5-inch 1080p screen?

• Locked to Vodafone?

• Clean version of Android?

Network-branded phones have really improved recently, and Vodafone is spearheading this push. It’s got three of them currently, with the Smart Prime 7 sitting below £100 and the Smart Platinum 7 making a push for the flagships. But it’s the Smart Ultra 7 that has the best of both worlds.

For £135 you get a seriously capable phone, with a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a 2,950 mAh battery that’ll easily make it through the day.

Under the plastic shell is a MediaTek CPU, paired with 2GB RAM, that gets the job done. Performance is improved thanks to the use of an almost stock version of Android 6.0.1. There are a few apps preinstalled from Vodafone, like a custom Messenger that lets you reply to texts online, which is actually very useful.

The 13MP rear facing camera takes good pictures in daylight, though we found colours a tad muted and there was a lot of processing going on. Budget phones still haven’t quite managed to get fantastic cameras. The 8MP front-facing camera isn’t very good at all, especially when the sun goes down.

The only other major downside is that you’ll have to already be on, or willing to switch to, Vodafone as your service provider.

At time of review the Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 was available for £135.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

3 of 8

Score

Cheap phones

Xiaomi isn’t the biggest name in the UK or the US, but the Chinese brand sells a lot of phones worldwide. And most of them are good, some are even great. We’re huge fans of the Xiaomi Mi5, but the RedMi Note 3 is a good pick if you’re after something even cheaper.

It’s a big phone, but it has a Moto G4 matching 5.5-inch screen with a 1080p resolution and it looks good. It’s a strong performer, too, thanks to the MediaTek Helio X10 CPU and either 2 or 3GB RAM. In our tests it outranked the Samsung Galaxy S6 in benchmarks, which is quite impressive.

Like many of the phones on this list, the camera is one of the biggest differentiators between it and the flagships. It comes loaded with a 13-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture that is capable of taking social media worthy snaps – though colours are often a bit muted and there’s severe shutter-lag when the lights aren’t on.

Software could be an issue for some, especially if you prefer your phone running a light skin. Xiaomi is one of the worst offenders when it comes to completely reworking Android and almost all of Google’s Material Design has been covered up on the RedMi Note 3. It’s not ugly, but it feels more like iOS 9 than Lollipop.

The battery life is impressive and it’s one of the only all-metal phones in this round-up.

At time of review the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was available for £219.

Also, be sure to browse through the accessories in this section too and find yourself everything from screen protectors to portable power banks which are ideal to add to your list of camping equipment.

If you like music, or using your devices hands-free, then why not get a pair of headphones with a built-in microphone and take care of both. If space really is a concern, however, then we also stock micro SD cards compatible with many smartphones to expand your storage memory. And, to protect all your data and the handheld device, why not get a mobile phone case that will protect it, or choose one that adds a bit of flair and personality to your phone.

List of Cheap Basic Cell Phone Plans on Every Network – From $ a Month, cheap cell phones for sale.

    #Cheap #cell #phones #for #sale

List of Cheap Basic Cell Phone Plans on Every Network From $1.25 a Month

Cheap cell phones for saleUpdated. Cellular phone bills remain an area where many people can trim their budgets. If you haven t shopped around lately, there are many new options available. All the major networks sell wholesale minutes to MVNOs (Mobile Network Virtual Operators), which they in turn sell at a significant discount to individuals. I would also observe that smartphone improvements are slowing, such that using your current phone for another year can also save you hundreds per year.

This post is restricted to talk text only plans for both light and unlimited usage no data (although some plans include some anyway). After looking at over 100 MVNOs and multiple comparison engines, and these are the cheapest I could find for each of the major carriers Verizon, AT T, Sprint, or T-Mobile. I organized in this way so that you can simply Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and avoid the hassle of selling your used phone. You can now either go minimalist starting at $15 for an entire year ($1.25 a month), or you can fully replace your landline with an unlimited talk and text plan starting at $15 a month.

Cheap cell phones for saleT-Mobile Network

    • Light Usage LycaMobile. Their barebones prepaid plan requires a minimum top-up of $10. You must have some sort of activity every 90 days to keep your service (make a phone call, send a text). The rate is a flat 5 cents a minute for talk, and 4 cents per text. If you only used 100 minutes a year, that would be $15 a year for the first year and then $5 a year afterward ($10 minimum recharge).
    • Unlimited Talk Text Republic Wireless. You can now buy a SIM and bring over your own device on their eligible list (no iPhones) and get unlimited talk and text for $15 a month. They have a somewhat unique service, see my Republic Wireless review for details. Also worthy of mention is Mint, which goes as low as $21 a month for unlimited talk, text, and 2 GB of data per month. However, you ll have to pay for an entire year upfront to get that price.

    Cheap cell phones for sale

    • Light Usage RingPlus. Their plans change constantly, but as of this writing you can get 250 minutes, 250 texts, and 250 MB of data per month with a $10 initial top-up and a $0 monthly fee. In other words, your total cost could be $10 a year. I still don t understand their business model, so be ready to port out your number in case the fun stops. See my Ringplus review for details.
    • Unlimited Talk Text Tello. Unlimited talk, text, and no data for $18 a month. I will mention that Republic Wireless has $15 a month plan for unlimited talk and text on the Sprint Network, but you can t bring any used Sprint device over you must buy a special RW-modified phone in order to use the Sprint Network (see above for their T-Mobile BYOD option).

Cheap cell phones for saleAT T Network

    • Light Usage Pix Wireless. Their GSM Blue service is on AT T, and runs as low at $75 a year which includes 1,875 minutes, 3,750 text, and 938 MB of LTE data for 365 days. Overages are 4¢/Minute, 2¢/Text, and 8¢/ MB 4G LTE. Alternatively, H20 Wireless has a minimum top-up of $10 every 90 days, for a total minimum annual cost of $40 per year. At the flat rate of 5¢/Minute, 5¢/Text, that $40 would buy you 400 minutes and 400 texts over those 360 days.
    • Unlimited Talk Text Airvoice. Unlimited talk, text, and 100 MB of data for $20 a month (technically 30 days).

Cheap cell phones for saleVerizon Network

    • Light Usage Selectel.$75 a year for a bucket of 2000 minutes and 2000 texts for the entire year (no data included, 3G phones only). The same plan costs $100 a year for 4G phones. Their website is very vague; call them directly at 877-218-5744. You can also try Page Plus Cellular for $80 for 2,000 minutes that last a year, but they only take 3G phones.
    • Unlimited Talk Text Boom Mobile. Unlimited talk, text, and 250 MB data for $20 a month. (Both 3G and 4G phones will work, but there is a separate plan for each.)

Let me know in the comments if you find a better deal.

    TechRadar

    Cheap phones

    Cheap phones

    Cheap phones

    Cheap phones

    3. iPhone SE

    iOS on an incredible budget

Inventor of cell phone: We knew someday everybody would have one

    • In 1973, Martin Cooper and his team at Motorola built, demonstrated first cell phone
    • Cooper says that first phone cost $3,900, plus 50 cents a minute to talk
    • Cooper: We knew that someday everybody would have a [cell] phone
    • Today he has several cell phones — but not an iPhone, which he gave away

(CNN) — In 1973, Martin Cooper changed the world, although he didn’t know it yet.

Cooper and his team at Motorola, the communications company, created maybe the only thing that runs the lives of business professionals and teenagers alike — the cell phone.

It was the size of a brick and wasn’t commercially sold for another decade. But as Cooper demonstrated on a New York sidewalk, it worked.

The concept of cellular technology had already been created by Motorola’s rival, AT T, whose Bell Labs introduced a system allowing calls to be moved from one cell to another while remaining on the same channel. But AT T was focusing this technology on the car phone.

Cooper wanted people to have freedom to talk on the phone away from their cars. So in reaction, he and Motorola embarked on a project to create a more portable device.

Motorola spent three months building a prototype for a portable, mobile handset that Cooper publicly demonstrated in April of 1973. The company’s first commercial cellular phone, the DynaTAC, went on sale 10 years later.

Cooper, now 81, is founder of ArrayComm, a company working to improve cellular networks, smart antenna and wireless communication. He and his wife are also inventors of the Jitterbug, a simplified cell phone geared to senior citizens.

    Cheap cell phones for sale

Cooper was surprised when his landline dropped our call. After calling him back on his mobile, we had a chance to ask him about the creation of the device that changed the face of communication as we know it.

Here is an edited transcript of our conversation:

CNN: What was the technology climate like back in 1973, and what gave you the idea to move with the cell phone and compete with AT T’s car phone?

Cooper: There were no large-scale integrated circuits, no computers, no closed-circuit televisions, no LCD screens — I can’t tell you all the things that did not exist in 1973. But, we’d been building phones for years and years in cars, and we [Motorola] thought the time was ready for personal communication, ’cause people are just naturally mobile.

For 100 years, people wanting to talk on the phone have been constrained by being tied to their desks or their homes with a wire, and now we’re going to trap them in their cars? That’s not good.

So we decided to take on AT T. By 1973, we decided to put on a dazzling presentation, and I decided the best way to do that was to build a phone and have someone actually have the experience of talking on a real personal handheld telephone. And that was the genesis of that phone that we built.

When did you make that first phone call? Who was it to?

I thought everybody knew the answer to that question! The first public call was made out on the streets of New York. It was to [Joel S. Engel], the head of the cellular program at AT T. I called and told him, Joel, I’m calling you from a cellular phone, a real cellular phone, a handheld, portable, real cellular phone.

I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it was really quiet for a while. My assumption was that he was grinding his teeth. He was very polite and ended the call. When asked about it, he says he has no recollection of this moment.

What were the reactions to the cell phone like? Did people think it was unbelievable, impossible, unnecessary?

Well, people were dazzled by the concept! It was beyond imagination that more than half the people in the world would have these phones. But people were absolutely amazed by the fact that you could hold the phone up to your ear, walk around and make a phone call.

Remember, there were not even any cordless phones at that time. We had a press conference [in 1973], and I handed the phone to this young lady journalist and told her to make a phone call. And she said, Can I call my mother in Australia? and I said, Sure! And she did that.

This woman was just spellbound, she couldn’t imagine how this little phone could reach more than halfway around the world, and talk to her mother who actually answered the phone. Sophisticated New Yorkers were standing there with their mouths open.

The reception was quite extraordinary. The chairman of our company happened to be in Washington the time we did the next demonstration [in the early 1980s]. He visited with the vice president . [George H.W. Bush] . and showed him this new phone, and he was so taken by the phone.

He said, Well, I have to show this to Ron. And the next thing you know he was showing it to Ronald Reagan. And Reagan asks, What’s keeping us from having this?

What did the phone look like? How much did it cost and who actually bought it?

The phone [was] about 10 or 11 inches high, about 1 1/2 inches across, and about 4 inches deep. It weighed about 2 1/2 pounds.

    How much did it cost?

If you think about it, this is not a commercial product and if you had to build one it would cost about a million dollars. By the time we built a commercial product, it was 10 years later. We didn’t sell that product until October of 1983, and the phone then cost $3,900. So that would be like buying a phone today for $10,000.

That’s quite a lot of money. Who actually bought these phones?

Well, I wouldn’t say it was large number of people; in fact it was a very small number. In the beginning it was wealthy people, but also people who had to be on the move. It was for people like real estate agents and doctors, who were already more accustomed to technology because they were using pagers.

Cell phones didn’t really get to be a big deal til about another seven or eight years later. Everybody thinks that the cell phone has always been here and that it’s always been popular, but it wasn’t until 1990 — before there were as few as a million cell phones in the world — that’s where it started to really explode.

Did you ever think the phone would ever be available to everyone?

Well, we knew that someday everybody would have a [cell] phone, but it was hard to imagine that that would happen in my lifetime. And now we’ve got almost five billion phones in the world. Wow.

How do you feel about the advancements cell phones have made, especially with features like apps and cameras, etc.?

I must tell you as much as we were dreamers, we never imagined that all these things could be combined into one, and I’m really not so sure that it’s a great thing. Phones have gotten so complicated, so hard to use, that you wonder if this is designed for real people or for engineers.

I think what’s really going to happen is we’re going to have a lot of different kinds of phones when our industry grows up — some that are just plain, simple telephones. In fact, my wife and I started a company, and she designed the Jitterbug, which is just a simple telephone.

What kind of phone do you have now?

I’m sitting here looking at all of my phones. I’m talking to you on a phone I’m trying out for a company in Europe. It’s called the Vertu, and this phone starts at $5,000. And that’s for the very cheap model. You could buy a solid-gold version of this phone.

So this phone, even with inflation, costs about half as much as your first cell phone.

Yep, and really this phone is not a really complicated phone. It does have a phonebook in it, it does reach certain parts of the Web, but it’s not a PDA. You can’t read e-mail on it; it doesn’t have a camera on it. It really is a basic telephone.

I also have a Droid. I got a Motorola Droid that I use. I also have a Jitterbug. I’m always trying whatever the latest telephone is. I had an iPhone for a while, I gave that to my grandson. Kids are really caught up in that. But I think that the Android phones are catching up now, and the latest version of the Android phones are every bit as good, if not better, than the iPhone.

These cheap phones come at a price – your privacy, cheap phones.

These cheap phones come at a price — your privacy

How much do you value your privacy and security? Researchers at Black Hat found a series of phones that are secretly sending data to Chinese servers.

Adups removed its backdoor apps sending personal data to Chinese servers on the BLU R1 HD last November, but it hasn’t stopped on other phones, Kryptowire said.

Cheap phones are coming at the price of your privacy, security analysts discovered.

At $60, the Blu R1 HD is the top-selling phone on Amazon. Last November, researchers caught it secretly sending private data to China.

Shanghai Adups Technology, the group behind the spying software on the Blu R1 HD, called it a mistake. But analysts at Kryptowire found the software provider is still making the same “mistake” on other phones.

At the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, researchers from Kryptowire, a security firm, revealed that Adups’ software is still sending a device’s data to the company’s server in Shanghai without alerting people. But now, it’s being more secretive about it.

“They replaced them with nicer versions,” Ryan Johnson, a research engineer and co-founder at Kryptowire, said. “I have captured the network traffic of them using the command and control channel when they did it.”

An Adups spokeswoman said that the company had resolved the issues in 2016 and that the issues “are not existing anymore.”

Kryptowire said it has observed Adups sending data without telling users on at least three different phones.

This year’s Black Hat conference comes against the backdrop of a year’s worth of reports about Russian hacking and its intrusion into the 2016 presidential race, as well as news in the last few months about ransomware attacks that hijack people’s computers, to be unlocked (if you’re lucky) for a fee.

People have enough to worry about when it comes to privacy on their personal devices. Between government surveillance and security vulnerabilities, preinstalled software on the phone itself is an unexpected breach of both trust and privacy for millions of owners who are just looking for an inexpensive phone.

Blu, which says it disputes the notion that Adups is spyware, said it “has several policies in place which take customer privacy and security seriously,” and says there have been no breach with its devices. The company also cites Kryptowire vice president Tom Karygiannis as saying the data collection does not constitute any wrong doing.

Karygiannis, however, told CNET: “I did not authorize them to make a public statement on my behalf.”

    ‘A huge invasion of privacy’

Having access to the command and control channel — a communications route between your device and a server — allowed Adups to execute commands as if it’s the user, meaning it could also install apps, take screenshots, record the screen, make calls and wipe devices without needing permission.

“It does seem like a huge invasion of privacy,” Johnson said.

Kryptowire looked at more than 20 pieces of firmware from low-end Android devices, all which had vulnerabilities that allowed for spyware apps and all of which had a MediaTek chipset. The chipset always came with a preinstalled app called MTKLogger, which allowed for surveillance of data like your browsing history and GPS location if it were hijacked.

MediaTek said it resolved the issue in November, but researchers at Kryptowire found out last week that the Blu Advance 5.0 still ships with a vulnerable version of the app. The phone, which is the third best-selling phone on Amazon, does not have a firmware update available to stop a potential exploit, Johnson said.

It works through something called privilege escalation, which gives advanced permissions to certain apps far beyond what you would like it to have. Kryptowire has not found any cases yet in which the MTKLogger has been hijacked, but the vulnerability still exists.

Kryptowire originally discovered Adups’ spying nature last October. After it had been revealed, Adups removed its data tracking on devices like the Blu R1 HD and the Blu Life One X2, two phones that are popular on Amazon for their cheap prices. For those two devices, Adups stopped sending text message and call logs to China since.

    A widespread problem

Johnson only found Adups’ secret data funneling to China because it was the top-selling phone on Amazon — but the issue remains prevalent on low-profile devices, he said. In May, he purchased a Blu Grand M from Best Buy, which goes for between $60 and $75.

Six months after Adups said it made a mistake with its data tracking, Johnson discovered that it was still happening on the Blu Grand M. In May, he found the phone was sending data to China containing a list of apps installed, the apps used, unique phone identifiers like the MAC address and IMEI, the phone number, and cell phone tower ID.

It doesn’t track your phone’s GPS, but cell phone tower data is close enough to be admissible as evidence in murder trials and has raised massive debates on digital privacy.

“It can generally locate a person, presuming they’re in an urban area,” Johnson said.

Adups’ spying intensity varies based on the phone, but it comes preinstalled on up to 700 million devices, including cars and other connected devices. Some of the more aggressive spying would send a person’s browsing history and bookmarks.

Johnson said he hasn’t found the spyware on any phones that cost more than $300, as Adups is mostly installed on cheaper devices. It’s not only on Blu devices, as Johnson in May found data exfiltration on the Cubot X16S as well.

The Chinese phone, which sells for between $90 and $110, was sending call logs, browser history and location data behind users’ backs. Cubot did not respond to requests for comment.

“It seems pretty widespread around lower-end phones,” Johnson said.

Johnson tested the Cubot X16S’s software again on Monday, and found that Adups had quietly removed the backdoor app on the device — shortly after CNET reached out to the company.

It’s still unclear what happens with the data once it’s on servers in China. When Johnson contacted Adups, the company said it would just delete the data. Kryptowire was able to track the data to where it ended up, but not what was done with it.

The story originally ran at 10:30 a.m. PT on July 26.

Factory Unlocked Phones vs, cheap pay as you go mobile phones.

    #Cheap #pay #as #you #go #mobile #phones

Factory Unlocked Phones vs. Unlocked Phones

While some people prefer the freedom of pay-as-you-go phones, there are still 75 percent of Americans who opt to go under contract with a cellular service provider. However, many subscribers often find that getting away from their phone companies can be harder than they thought, with networks imposing costly early termination fees for subscribers that try to leave before the contract is done, and locking phones so they can only be used on their network.

    Reasons Phones are Locked

Having an unlocked mobile phone seems like a no-brainer for most people. Yet, carriers go through the trouble and expend additional resources just to ensure their phones don’t get used on other networks, especially if that phone is a smartphone. One reason they lock phones is to install special software in the phones. These include special ringtones or logos, but also useful functions specific only to the carrier.

    Wireless Technology Basics

Before going into detail about unlocked phones, it would be best to learn about the two main technologies used by cell phones to access cellular networks, and how they are related to unlocked phones. These are GSM and CDMA.

    GSM vs. CDMA

Mobile phones run on either a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) or CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) system. CDMA phones have all the customer information installed on the phone by the mobile network service provider. A customer can take the phone home (or have it delivered to their doorstep), turn it on, and start using it. GSM phones, on the other hand, require a special plastic chip called a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card to verify the identity of the subscriber to the cellular network so he or she can use the phone. This chip can then be transferred to other GSM phones. A GSM phone can run almost anywhere in the world, and use any SIM card, provided it’s not locked to one carrier.

Difference Between Factory Unlocked Phone and Unlocked Phone

A locked phone is tied to one specific carrier and therefore can’t be used with other wireless network providers. A factory unlocked phone and unlocked phone can both be used with a SIM card on any network. However, the main difference is that a factory unlocked phone has been unlocked by the carrier or retailer and an unlocked phone has been unlocked by a third party. Factory unlocked phones are shipped from the source and unlocked before being sold to the customer. For example, an iPhone 6 that is bought from the Apple retail or online store factory unlocked. However, if it is taken from the Apple store as-is, it does not have working cellular capabilities. Instead, it functions as an iPod when hooked up to wireless internet. The buyer must go to a network carrier and set up service in order to make that iPhone function as a phone.

    Benefits of an Unlocked Phone

Unlocking a phone makes it possible to leave a carrier at any time, although most service providers impose a hefty fee for those who leave in the middle of the contract, or they demand the phone be returned. For people who have locked phones and don’t plan to change carriers, there are also other compelling reasons to remove the lock or purchase a factory unlocked phone, namely, to save on roaming charges, have the ability to modify the phone, use a phone model a carrier may not offer, or resell it at a higher value.

Save Costs on Roaming Charges Abroad

Using a cell phone abroad is expensive, and many people use unlocked GSM phones when they travel to avoid paying high roaming charges. By replacing the SIM card in a phone, a user can avoid the high roaming charges that otherwise accrue. A businessman going on a week-long trip to Europe or a backpacker setting off for four months in India can easily purchase a pay-as-you-go SIM as soon as he lands at the airport and start making cheap calls and send text messages to friends and colleagues in the country. This also means people living in other countries where a phone may not be available can purchase an unlocked phone and use it in their home countries. A new SIM card can be purchased at most large airports.

    Modify Phone

Most owners of locked phones cannot make any changes to their phone whenever they want. For example, locked Windows phone owners can only install applications from the Windows Phone Marketplace, which is region-specific. That means Windows phone owners in the US cannot purchase apps available only in Asia, Europe, or anywhere else in the world, and vice-versa (due to copyright or legal reasons). When a phone is unlocked or comes factory unlocked, the user can then make almost any modifications he or she wants, such as add any app, modify the software, or remove carrier-specific software. Note that this is still different from jail-breaking a phone, which entails removing all software confines and having complete control over apps and other features.

Use a Phone Model a Carrier Doesn’t Offer

Manufacturers and carriers still try to control the mobile phone market. Some manufacturers have exclusive deals with certain carriers to distribute their latest models. For example, Samsung signs a contract with Carrier A to offer their latest Galaxy phone to subscribers. Therefore, other wireless service providers won’t be able to obtain these phones to sell to their customers. If subscribers of Carrier B want to get their hands on those hot Samsung phones, they’ll have to sign up with Carrier A or obtain an unlocked phone from Samsung or a third party.

    Resell at a Higher Value

An unlocked phone has a higher resale value than a locked one. Aside from having all the benefits previously mentioned, the owner can sell the phone to any person on any network. For those who like to switch phones frequently, having an unlocked phone can help them sell it faster and for more money.

    Conclusion

Having an unlocked phone makes it easier for subscribers to break ties with their cellular phone carrier. Most companies lock phones to prevent them from being used on other networks so they can add software and regain their losses from selling the phone cheap, but many phones today are available as factory unlocked or unlocked. It’s important to note that these terms refer to GSM phones or phones that utilize a SIM card.

Using more than your allotted mobile internet data could result in being charged a princely sum for the privilege. Or you may see the internet function on your phone get a lot slower or certain apps not opening.

However, making sure that you use free wi-fi wherever possible – as long as you keep your device adequately protected in public places – can help you avoid using up your data.

Before choosing a mobile phone tariff, take into account how much mobile data you’ll actually be using, because there’s no point in splashing out on 10gb of data if you only use your phone to send emails.

You can also turn off mobile data on your phone manually, which can come in useful when taking your phone abroad.

Most providers will have an online service which permits you to see how much available data you have left, they may even send you a text or email when you’re getting close to the predetermined limit.

    Mobile phone handsets

Another factor to take into account when choosing your mobile phone deal is the type of handset that you want.

Most of the big hitters in the mobile phone industry also manufacture other smart devices including tablets and smart watches. If you already have anything like this from a certain brand, you may want to consider choosing a handset from them too.

For instance, an Apple watch won’t have much functionality without an iPhone to connect to, whereas if you use them in conjunction with each other, you could conquer the world… or receive texts and emails on your watch – which is the same thing really.

    Mobile operating systems

Smartphones use an operating system which is basically the software that enables them to run programs and apps.

This will differ depending on the type of phone you have and it will needed to be updated regularly.

    Common operating systems are:

    • Android – for use on devices using Google
    • iOS – for use on Apple devices
    • Windows Phone – for use on Microsoft devices

Updating your mobile operating system can help fix any bugs or glitches currently plaguing your device, as well as improving the software that you use every day.

It may take a while to complete but it’s not to be ignored.

    Mobile phone tariff

If you choose a mobile phone contract (rather than a pay as you go option) – your mobile phone tariff is essentially a breakdown of the different charges included in your monthly bill.

It will state how many minutes and texts make up your package, as well as the amount of mobile data available to you monthly.

It can be possible to get an unlimited number of calls and texts in your tariff, but if you don’t need it, try not to fork out for an unlimited plan. Be warned that you’ll be charged for going over what’s detailed in your tariff though.

    Upfront handset cost

You can choose whether to pay an upfront cost for your handset, or to choose a tariff with a free handset.

Do bear in mind that tariffs with ‘free’ handsets are likely to factor the cost of the phone into what you ‘ll pay each month, meaning it’s really more like spreading the cost than getting it free.

Check the total cost to see which deal works out better for you, whether that’s paying a lump sum at the start for lower monthly costs, or a free handset with nothing to pay up front.

    Contract length

Contract lengths will vary depending on the type of phone you’ve chosen and the pricing plan you’ve decided on.

Usually there are 12 or 24-month options and you’ll pay a fixed price monthly for the duration of the contract length.

Note that your contract may have a minimum contract term and if you cancel before this ends you could be charged an early termination fee.

    SIM-only tariffs

You’ll have a monthly contract – which is a package of how many call minutes, texts and mobile data you’ve paid for, however you won’t receive the handset as you do with normal mobile phone contracts.

    See also:

You’ll only get the SIM, which you can then use in a phone that you already have. This can be useful if you want to change the tariff you’re on but are attached to the handset you already own.

Maybe you’re not keen on an upgrade and your current tariff has more call minutes and texts than you know what to do with.

Pay as you go mobile phone

The alternative to contract options are pay as you go (PAYG) mobile phones and they do exactly what they say on the tin.

Simply top up your phone and use it until the credit runs out. After which you’ll no longer be able to make phone calls, texts or access the internet.

Pay as you go choices don’t tend to be as economical as the contract alternative for people who frequently use their mobile. However, it can be a good budgeting tool for parents if their child needs a phone, but they don’t want to be landed with a huge unexpected bill.

    Cheap mobile phones uk

Calling friends, family or lovers overseas can cost a fortune phoning Australia on BT can be up to 90p/min and with Vodafone it’s an eye-watering Ј1.50/min. But if you know the RIGHT way to call you can pick up the phone for next to nothing, or even for free.

The best way to go about this depends on your circumstances. This guide explains the options, with step-by-step instructions on how to make cheap or free UK and international calls, from mobiles and landlines.

    In this guide.

It used to be all about override providers – what happened to them?

Until recently a key trick when making cheap international and UK calls was using what’s known as an ‘override provider’.

These are firms that give you a special ‘access number’ which you dial first – then once connected you dial the number you’re actually calling. (We used to list these providers in our UK Callchecker and International Callchecker tools, which unfortunately have now been removed following the changes described below.)

However in July 2015 Ofcom introduced new rules on non-geographic number charges, which hiked the cost of calling many override providers. As a result, in most cases override providers AREN’T the cheapest option any more, though as we explain below they do still beat simply picking up your mobile or landline.

This is the first incarnation of this guide please give us feedback and suggest improvements in the Cheap Calls forum thread.

What sort of calls are you making?

The guide below explains all possible calling options and makes it clear what’s cheapest. But it’s not just down to price – convenience is a factor too, particularly if you’re only making the occasional international call.

The best option will depend on lots of factors, including where you’re calling, how you’re calling, how often you’re calling and how much effort you want to put into cutting the cost.

Always check first if you can call for free. Otherwise, as a general rule:

    • Making a one-off call? Use an ‘instant dial’ override provider with your landline or mobile. This isn’t the very cheapest option – but it does involve minimal hassle in terms of setting up accounts.
    • Making occasional calls? Use a paid VoIP service, or ‘18185’ from a landline or a mobile. This will take slightly longer to set up, but it’s cheaper so probably worth it if making several calls.
    • Making regular overseas calls, especially to a single destination? Get a bundle. This requires you commit to a monthly plan but the savings can be significant.

First, check if you can call for free

Before you look at the best options for making a cheap call, there’s one very important point to understand – if you’ve access to the internet it’s possible to call people for free.

    Cheap mobile phones uk

What’s geekily known as VoIP (short for ‘Voice over Internet Protocol’) has turned the phone world upside down. So long as you and the person you’re calling are online, there are lots of ways to call them completely free of charge.

We’ve listed a few ways of doing this below, though you can find a longer list and a full explanation of how they work in our Free Web Calls guide.

Via a PC/Mac: Connect to the internet through Wi-Fi or a wired connection and desktop programs like Skype or Facetime (Mac only) are easy to contact other users on. Most laptops come with a microphone (and often a webcam, if you want video too) built-in. Otherwise you can pick up a headset for less than a tenner.

Via a smartphone/tablet: The advantage of portable devices such as these is they usually have access on-the-go so you can call via 3G/4G or Wi-Fi (the former will use data, though, so watch your allowance).

Many of the same free services you can use on PCs and Macs are also available as free apps (including the two above) via the App Store, Google Play store or Windows Phone store. There are also options specifically geared towards use on a mobile, like Viber (also possible to use on desktop) and WhatsApp.

Yet there’s a golden rule here which catches many out:

Remember, Skype and similar services are only free if BOTH you and the person you’re calling are online.

If you use the service to call a phone number, you pay – this is how VoIP providers make money. But often there are cheaper alternatives to the likes of Skype, as we explain below.

Calling a UK number? Use inclusive calls/minutes

    Cheap mobile phones uk

If you’re calling a UK number and have inclusive calls/minutes with your landline provider or mobile network, the simplest option is to use those. (These aren’t really free, of course, as you’re paying for the overall package, but since you’ve paid for them you may as well use them.)

Inclusive calls packages which come with a landline rarely cover calls to mobiles, and even calls to other landlines are often only included at certain times of day and with a time limit on individual calls (typically 60 mins – if so, just hang up before the hour’s up and dial again). With mobile allowances there are rarely limitations on the call type or length, though if you call a non-standard number eg, one starting 084, 087 or 09 additional charges likely apply.

If you call a UK mobile which is abroad at the time you dial, you won’t pay any more to call than if the phone was still in the UK – it’s not the location of the recipient that matters, but the nationality of their number. Bear in mind, however, that the recipient is likely to have to pay to pick up the call see the Mobile Roaming guide for more on this.

Paid calls via the web cheapest but requires an account adding credit

    Cheap mobile phones uk

If you can’t make the call for free eg, if the person you want to call isn’t online or doesn’t use a free service like Skype you can still slash the cost of calls. We mentioned above that Skype lets you pay to call non-Skype users (ie, an actual phone number), but there are lots of other companies out there that do it MUCH cheaper.

The way it works is you sign up with a VoIP provider and top up your account with credit, usually added through its website (if you’ll be making regular calls to a particular destination, it may be worth getting a monthly plan). You pay a per-minute rate for the call; some providers also charge a one-off connection fee on top.

Costs depend on where you’re calling and from which provider, but when we checked prices for calling mobiles in 10 countries in Nov 2015 the following were cheapest:

    • Vyke (cheapest for Ireland, France, Germany, Poland, India, Pakistan, Australia)
    • Localphone (cheapest for USA and Canada)
    • Rebtel (cheapest for China)

You can use this method to make dirt-cheap calls if you fit into one of these categories:

    • Calling from a smartphone? Download the VoIP provider’s smartphone app most apps can access your phone book, so you can call straight from the app. Calls are usually made via Wi-Fi or 3G/4G (in which case keep an eye on your data allowance).
    • Have inclusive calls on a landline? If you’re dialling a mobile or calling overseas, you may not be able to use your inclusive minutes directly – but you can still use them to call for less via a VoIP service, through its ‘local access number’. Enter the number you want to call into your account on its website and it’ll give you an alternative local number to dial.

If you don’t fit into one of the categories above though, this WON’T be the cheapest option.

If you’ve a non-smart mobile phone, you can use a paid VoIP service via a local access number like you can with a landline, but you’ll use up your inclusive minutes, or if you have none left, will be charged the standard rate. If you’re on a landline and can’t use inclusive calls, you’ll pay the local rate to connect to the access number.

In both cases you’ll also have to pay the VoIP provider’s rate, so it isn’t worth it see below instead for landline and mobile alternatives.

What it costs to call via the internet

This table compares the cost with a VoIP provider (we used Localphone for a full list see the Free Web Calls guide) to calling directly from your landline or mobile. Rates vary by country we’ve used UK, German and Australian recipient numbers as examples.

Picture this, you are about to have dinner & the phone rings. You rush to the phone only to find a stranger trying to sell you something. Does this scenario sound familiar to you? It happens all the time in households across Australia. Sometimes you can get a number of such phone calls.

Choose your line rental plan carefully – Most people end up choosing the standard line rental plan offered by the phone company. But you need to be more proactive with the home phone plan that you choose as this determines your phone bill at the end of the month.

Recently I have come across a number of reports in various magazines, newspapers & even on the Oprah Winfrey show that have referred to a link between the use of mobile phones and cancer. One of the articles I read in today’s paper identifies a link between Mobile Phone usage.

According to a report released by IHS suppli on Friday, Samsung Electronics has become the leading mobile shipping company in the world, ousting Nokia who were holding this position from past 14 years. Nokia took this position from Motorola, back in 1998 and now Samsung with their continuous efforts and hard work became the number one Smartphone.

A good news for Samsung Galaxy users in Australia rolled out yesterday from the bag of Telstra mobile, when they announced Ice Cream Sandwich update ready to be applied for the device.

Can I send text messages between a computer and a cell phone, cheap cell phone sites.

    #Cheap #cell #phone #sites

Can I send text messages between a computer and a cell phone?

Helping people with computers. one answer at a time.

Well, let’s clear one thing up right away: cell phone text messaging, or “SMS” text messaging, is not the same as instant messaging on your computer. They’re two very different systems.

    Cheap cell phone sites

Can a computer (laptop or desktop) text message a cell phone, and can a cell phone text message a computer? If so, how?

Well, let’s clear one thing up right away: cell phone text messaging, or “SMS” text messaging, is not the same as instant messaging on your computer. They’re two very different systems.

That doesn’t mean all is lost, however. There are some things you can do. How much depends mostly on the cellular provider, and the type of phone you have.

SMS stands for Short Message Service, and is designed specifically for cell phones.

You can usually send an SMS message to a cell phone via email. Most of the cell phone providers have a special email address or domain that you can send a message to, which then gets forwarded as a text message to the cell phone. For example with Verizon in the U.S., you can email ##########@vtext.com, where “##########” is replaced with the 10 digit cellular number, and that message will get sent as a text message to that phone. Other carriers typically have some type of equivalent and/or a web page from which you can send a text message to one of their phones.

Important: remember that this is a Short message service . usually only up to a certain number of characters of your message will be sent. Some providers will simply truncate your message if it’s too long, others will break it up into multiple messages. Others might well discard, or bounce the message back to you. Check with the provider in question.

The reverse may also work. Again, using Verizon I was able to send a message via SMS on my phone to my email address.

In all cases, remember that this is email based, and that response times may be significantly longer as people do, or do not, check their email.

IM services, like AOL’s AIM, MSN’s Instant Messenger and the others are all designed as what I’ll call “computer to computer” services. They all kinda sorta assume that you’ve got a computer of some sort. Fair enough.

Many cell phones these days pretty much are computers. Many cellphones run things like the Palm operating system, or a version of Windows.

    And many have internet capability.

So, it stands to reason that one might be able to find an instant messaging client for your cell phone. In my case, using my Treo and an unlimited data access plan from Verizon, I’m able to run the Mundu IM instant messaging client and chat using my MSN Instant Messenger account, or my AOL Instant Messenger account.

The big caveat here is that you must have an internet capable cell phone and have signed up for an internet data plan of some sort.

If you want to watch films or TV programmes on the (extremely) small screen, you’ll need a package with enough mobile data to allow this without going over your data threshold.

List of Cheap Basic Cell Phone Plans on Every Network – From $ a Month, cheap cell phone sites.

    #Cheap #cell #phone #sites

List of Cheap Basic Cell Phone Plans on Every Network From $1.25 a Month

Cheap cell phone sitesUpdated.

    Cheap cell phone sitesT-Mobile Network

    Cheap cell phone sites

Cheap cell phone sitesAT T Network

    Cheap cell phone sitesVerizon Network

Whether you need to connect to the Internet from home, the office, coffee shop, hotel, or even at the bar, wireless Internet technology will connect you.

A bit of planning before you leave not only will help you save money, it can also make your travels much less stressful. Read more below to uncover discounts and start saving big on short term and long term airport parking.

For cheapest LAX airport parking off-site lots are probably your best bet

If price is your biggest consideration, you definitely want to check out private offsite lots near (but not actually on the grounds of) Los Angeles International Airport.

More than two dozen companies offer parking near LAX (most within 3 miles of the airport). It’s pretty simple to search lots, compare costs, read LAX parking reviews from real customers and book online when you use this quick and easy airport parking comparison website.

BONUS SAVINGS: Use our coupon code HELPER5 at checkout to save an extra $5 on your reservation!

While being budget-friendly may be their best selling point (we’ve seen rates as low as $8 per day before), there are a number of other reasons to consider LAX off site parking garages.

Guaranteed parking space. There is no reserved parking in LAX parking lot C (the economy lot), so finding a spot can be stressful – especially with your flight time looming. Booking an LAX off-site lot means you’ve got a space waiting just for you. Working out this detail of your trip in advance can really help reduce your level of travel stress.

Free shuttle. That’s right! You pull into your reserved spot and a shuttle picks you up and delivers you straight to your terminal. How convenient is that? Shuttles are available for your return trip, too. Each LAX parking lot has its own policies and frequencies, which are clearly spelled out on the site.

Perks. Airport valet parking is available at several of the lots along with other perks such as free newspaper, bottled water and auto spa services. Need indoor or covered parking? No problem. Just search the LAX list and find the ones that offer this amenity. Regardless, you’ll find plenty of parking options that are cheaper than the LAX parking lots on-site.

Enhanced security and free cancellations are other reasons travelers tell us they prefer an off-site parking garage for long term parking. LAX has abundant options so consider marking this off your travel to-do list ASAP.

LAX hotels with free parking and shuttle service can be a great savings strategy

If the thought of getting up at the crack of dawn, fighting LA traffic and circling the remote lot looking for a place to park makes your palms sweat, we’ve got the perfect solution – and one that will solve your need for LAX long term parking rates.

Many area hotels offer free parking when you spend at least one night. Again, it’s a really simple process to compare LAX hotel parking deals using this popular hotel comparison site.

BONUS SAVINGS: Use our coupon code HELPER15 at checkout to save an additional 15% on your deposit!

You might be thinking “Why would I want to pay extra for a hotel room?” Considering the exclusive rates made available on the site and the fact parking is free, the cost of a one-night stay might end up being the cheapest option for LAX parking. Long term rates at the airport can really add up. That being said, this method probably won’t work if you just need LAX short term parking.

There are nearly a dozen hotels that offer these extended stay deals for LAX cheap parking with options to leave your car for up to 21 days. Reservations are made by paying a small deposit with the balance due upon check-in.

Hotel shuttles run to and from the airport on a regular basis so you’ll rest easy knowing you have a quick trip directly to your terminal – and your car will remain in a well-monitored hotel parking lot.

Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles International Airport

    Hilton Los Angeles Airport

Embassy Suites Los Angeles – International Airport/South

La Quinta Inn & Suites LAX

    Baymont Inn & Suites – LAX/Lawndale

One more thing! This is also a great strategy if you simply want to come to the city early to explore Los Angeles before your flight the next day. You may enjoy taking advantage of hotel fitness facilities, free breakfast and free wi-fi – great for taking care of those last-minute travel details.

Check out offers from LAX airport shuttle providers

If you’d like to leave your car at home instead of paying long-term LAX airport parking rates, you unquestionably should check into Los Angeles airport shuttle services. Not only can they be a real bargain, they offer a number of other advantages over parking.

Ready to compare prices? Head on over to our preferred shuttle vendor and run a speedy search.

Whether your budget necessitates a shared-ride van (a popular and bigtime money-saving option) or you can make the numbers work on a private car, van, SUV or limo to LAX, here are some of the main reasons to consider shuttle services instead of LAX parking:

    • Being aware prior to traveling precisely the amount you’ll have to pay (as opposed to cab or ride-hailing companies)
    • No rate hikes at the last minute
    • The convenience of being dropped off/picked up right at your particular terminal at the specific time you determine
    • Skilled driver operators who have been safety trained and background screened
    • Help with all of your luggage
    • One way, roundtrip and multi-segment options
    • Peace of mind knowing your transportation plans are lined up in advance
    • No need to be dependent on friends or relatives to take you to the flight terminal or pick you up
    • The ability to leave your car safely at home, out of the elements

You can also read a more in-depth article on the pros and cons of LAX airport transportation companies in this expanded blog post.

Bonus tip: Book a shuttle to pick you up at your destination airport, too. You can arrange a specific time and not have to worry about finding a taxi or other mode of transportation at an airport you may not be familiar with.

It’s a lot less stressful when you know you’ve got your LAX ride pre-booked and the cost won’t fluctuate based on traffic, weather, construction or other reasons beyond your control. Run a quick cost comparison for Los Angeles airport car services now and find out exactly how much money you can save!

Browse local deal sites for transportation offers or parking coupons at LAX

There are great discounts to be found for all sorts of things on daily deal sites like Groupon, including cheap parking. LAX short term parking or long term parking savings can often be 50 percent or more.

Check for deals on a regular basis and never miss potential LAX discount parking by bookmarking this collection of Groupon LAX parking and ground transportation deals.

The thing about these sites is that the deals tend to change often so you may not always find one specifically for LAX overnight parking, but you may find a great discount on other LAX travel related services.

Perhaps a deal on LAX limo services, one-way airport transportation, an economy shuttle van or an LAX valet parking promotion would be a viable alternative to parking if the price was right.

Groupon is also a great place to find deals to use at your travel destination. You can save big on restaurants, concerts, museums, shows, spa treatments and more so be sure and check out those local deals and treat yourself to something fun!

A final recommendation: Before purchasing, you might check Groupon’s refund policy and be sure to read each offer carefully to make sure it’s good on the date you plan to redeem it.

Skip LAX long term parking rates and opt for 2 one-way car rentals instead

Here’s a scenario many travelers might find themselves in: You’re leaving for a lengthy trip and you live 3-4 hours away from the airport. You’re not very familiar with the area and paying the costly daily LAX parking rate for three weeks would be a budget strain.

How about reserving two one-way car rentals? You pick up the rental car near your home and drive it straight to the airport where you return it before boarding your flight. When you get back, you reverse the process, picking up a car at the airport rental agency to drive back to your hometown. No shuttles, no buses, no cringe worthy LAX parking fees!

Searching through individual LAX car rental companies online can be cumbersome – but here’s an online car rental aggregator we love that will show you prices and terms for many local LAX rental car companies all in one place.

You compare the best prices and reserve online (no credit card required!). This online car rental outfit is part of the Priceline Group – one of the world’s leading travel companies – and contracts with every major car rental company. This gives them the ability to negotiate some pretty great prices since they arrange so many rentals through their site.

Sometimes even the best parking at LAX will still bust the budget. Is skipping the parking right for you? Start your search for LAX car rental options.

    Your LAX airport questions answered

Where is Los Angeles airport located?

The Los Angeles airport address is 1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

How can I call the Los Angeles airport?

The Los Angeles airport phone number is (855) 463-5252.

What is the Los Angeles airport code?

Why is Los Angeles airport called LAX?

Here’s a fun fact: According to the official Los Angeles World Airports FAQ page, the X in LAX has no significant meaning. The site explains it this way:

“Before the 1930s, existing airports used a two-letter abbreviation based on the weather station at the airports. So, at that time, LA served as the designation for Los Angeles International Airport. But, with the rapid growth in the aviation industry, the designations expanded to three letters, and LA became LAX. The letter X does not otherwise have any specific meaning in this identifier.”

Where’s the best place to park at LAX on-site?

While definitely not the cheapest option, there are two LAX parking options on site. Which you choose may depend on the distance to your departing terminal.

    1) The Central Terminal Area is made up of 8 on-site individual LAX car parking lots that are located across from the passenger terminals. With nearly 8,000 spaces, these areas are available for overnight parking. LAX owns the lot and allows long term and short term stays.

At the time of this review, parking costs in these terminal lots are calculated as follows:
    – $3.00 for the first hour or fraction thereof
    – $2.00 each 30 minutes or fraction thereof after the first hour
    – $30 maximum for each 24 hours

    2) Parking Lot C LAX is a designated economy parking center with over 5,000 spots available (no large trucks or campers/trailers). Located at nearby 96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd, you will need to take a shuttle to the terminal area from this lot.

Parking costs at the time of this review are:
    – $4 for the first hour or fraction thereof
    – $4 for each additional hour or fraction thereof
    – $12 maximum for each 24 hours

IMPORTANT NOTE: LAX’s parking lots do not accept parking reservations. While you can calculate on-site LAX Parking Fees at the official airport link above based on your length of stay and the parking lot you choose, you are not guaranteed that space will be available at the time of your trip. However, it is possible to view “real-time” traffic conditions at LAX lots before departing for the airport.

How much is long-term parking at Los Angeles airport?

Search current LAX parking prices for short term and extended stay parking at the official website for Los Angeles International Airport.

Where can I find LAX parking coupons?

Visit our Top Travel Deals page for most recent LAX airport parking coupons at off-site lots and Los Angeles hotels with free airport parking packages, as well as discounts on other travel necessities such as airfare, rental cars and more.

How do I verify the parking status at Los Angeles airport?

Unfortunately, on-airport LAX parking facilities do not feature an online portal to confirm the status of their parking lots, therefore you run the risk of arriving at the airport, driving around and around (stressful!) only to find the low-cost lots are occupied. With your departure time looming you will have no alternative but to park in one of the closer lots at a much higher daily rate.

This is why it’s it’s always a great idea to think ahead and make a reservation at a private off-site LAX lot. It’s fast, easy and you’ll have a guaranteed spot nearby plus a hassle-free shuttle ride straight to your terminal. You will likely save some money, to boot. Make sure you use code HELPER5 at checkout to save an additional $5!

(Already on the road to the airport? Don’t worry. Unless it’s a busy holiday travel season, chances are a few of the off-airport lots will still have availability. Check now and book quickly and easily online. Remember your promotion code!)

Is there LAX valet parking and is it a good choice?

There are a variety of classifications for “valet” in regards to airport car parking. Here’s a rundown.

First, there’s the conventional definition of “valet parking,” when an airport attendant meets you in front of your departing terminal, takes your car and parks it on-site at the airport. Your car is then delivered back to you when you fly back in.

At LAX, traditional valet parking is not offered. However, read on for additional convenient alternatives.

There will also be a number of “valet” services available from privately owned off-site facilities, although the meaning can vary. With some lots, the employee will drive you to the airport in your car, leave you at your terminal and then provide parking in their secure off-site lot during your trip. At other lots, the attendant might meet you at the airport and then take your vehicle back to the off-site lot. Another meaning of “valet parking” is when the attendant meets you at your car in the off-site parking lot to help you with your luggage as you get on the shuttle (and again when you’re arriving at your terminal).

Luckily, the privately-owned lots do a great job of defining what their valet options include in the individual explanation (along with additional amenities), so it is quite easy to evaluate if forking over a bit more is worth it to you for this benefit.

The best cheap mobile phone deals in October

O ne of the ever-present issues with current smartphones is how expensive they have become. Flagship handsets from Apple and Samsung now cost £800 or more, while the upcoming iPhone X starts at £999.

If all you are after is a basic device to take on holiday or a simple phone for skimming emails, WhatsApp and text messages you may not need the latest smartphone with a powerful processor.

You can still get a great device for less than you might think, no matter how hard your network pushes you to pick up the latest model. Here are some of the best budget smartphones you can get in October for the best cheapest rates.

Cheap mobile phone deals for October

Nokia 3310: £79.99 upfront (for 12 months at equivalent £6.66 per month) with 100MB, 300 minutes and unlimited texts with Virgin Mobile.

Samsung J3: £10.00 per month with 500MB of data, 300 minutes and unlimited texts with Three.

Nokia 3: £12.00 per month with 500MB of data, 500 minutes and 5,000 texts with Tesco Mobile.

Sony Xperia XA1: £11 per month with 1,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and 2GB of data with Tesco Mobile.

Moto G5: £12.50 per month with 3GB of data, 500 minutes and 5,000 texts with Tesco Mobile.

i Phone SE: £15.99 per month with 500MB of data, 300 minutes and 5,000 texts from iD.

This month’s best SIM only deals:

Great SIM only deals this month include Three’s £9 per month deal for 4GB of data.

iD: 1GB of data with 500 minutes and 5,000 texts from £5 per month.

Plusnet: 2.5GB of data, 1,500 minutes and unlimited texts from £7 per month.

Virgin: 4GB with 1,500 minutes and unlimited texts from £9 per month.

Three: 4GB of data with all you can eat minutes and texts from £9 per month.

Three: 12GB of data with all you can 600 minutes and unlimited texts from £14 per month.

Vodafone: 8GB of data with unlimited calls and texts with Spotify, Sky Sports and NowTV for £17 per month.

EE: 18GB of data with unlimited minutes and texts from £18.20 per month.

GiffGaff: Unlimited data with unlimited calls and text from £20 per month.

Where can I find the cheapest mobile phone contracts?

If you want a bargain mobile phone deal you either want to pick up a cheap SIM-free phone and then add in a cut-price SIM card, or you can turn to a budget phone provider such as Carphone Warehouse and other sites such as Mobiles.co.uk.

R etailers like these often have exclusive network deals that are not advertised by the major providers or marketed on their websites. Tesco Mobile also has many great offers on bargain phones and uses O2’s network for solid coverage.

While many leading network deals offer huge amounts of data such as 25GB or more, you may not need this much. Careful use with Wi-Fi networks can keep usage down and budget contracts can serve fine for those who prefer to save.

What should you look for in a mobile phone contract?

    • Minutes: Many mobile phone deals come with unlimited calls and texts, but make sure you check as some cheaper deals have limited minutes.
    • Data: If your only data usage is rarely checking emails you may need as little as 1GB of data. Many people will require 2GB, but some budget offerings may only offer 500MB.
    • Roaming charges: From this summer, the EU is cracking down on roaming charges, meaning you will be charged the same in any EU country as you would in the UK. Some providers offer global roaming, which provides better international rates across continents.
    • Benefits: Mobile networks often include added perks in their packages, such as discount cinema tickets or priority for music events. O2 Priority offers tickets, entertainment and food discounts, EE has six months of Apple Music, while with some Vodafone deals you can get discounted access to apps such as Spotify.
    • Cashback deals: Some third party providers use cashback offers to cut monthly phone bills. This requires the buyer to claim back some of their money in several installments across the life of the contract to secure a lower price.

All the budget deals we pick are under £20 per month and most come with a free handset. These may be a little light on data and minutes, so we have added in some other cheap rates if you need it more.

    Best budget iPhone deals

    iPhone SE

S mall phones are still some of Apple’s best sellers, and if you want one with plenty of power then the 4-inch iPhone SE is available in some fantastic deals at just over a year old. It also has 64GB of storage, compared to the 16GB in the 5s, giving you plenty of capacity in a first rate phone. For nothing upfront you can get this iPhone with 500MB of data, 600 minutes and 5,000 texts from iD.

    Best budget Android deals

    Nokia 3

N okia has made a return to the smartphone game in 2017 with the Nokia 3, a budget model aiming to punch a hole in the mid-market, although these new models are now licensed to manufacturer HMD Global. The Nokia 3 is a capable low-cost model with a 5-inch screen, 16GB of storage and an 8MP camera thrown in. Right now, it is available in four colours in the UK including black, blue, white and copper following its release on July 12. You can find one with Tesco Mobile for £12.00 per month with 1GB of data with unlimited calls and texts.

    TechRadar

Best cheap phones in the US for 2017

    Cheap phone deals

    Cheap phone deals
